Fiberglass is a kind of inorganic non-metallic material with excellent performance, a wide variety of advantages are good insulation, strong heat resistance, good corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, but the disadvantage is brittle, poor wear resistance. The main raw materials of glass fiber production are: quartz sand, alumina and pyrophyllite, limestone, dolomite, boric acid, soda ash, glauberite, fluorite and so on. The production method is roughly divided into two categories: one is to make the fused glass directly into fiber; One is to make the molten glass into a glass ball or rod with a diameter of 20mm, and then make a very fine fiber with a diameter of 3-80μm after heating and remelting in a variety of ways. The infinite fiber drawn by mechanical drawing method through platinum alloy plate is called continuous fiberglass , commonly known as long fiber. The non-continuous fiber made by roller or air flow is called fixed-length fiberglass, commonly known as short fiber. The diameter of its monofilaments is several microns to more than twenty microns, equivalent to 1/20-1/5 of a human hair, and each bundle of fiber filaments is composed of hundreds or even thousands of monofilaments. Fiberglass is usually used as reinforcement materials in composite materials, electrical insulation materials and thermal insulation materials, roadbed panels and other fields of the national economy.
Fiberglass properties are as follows:
(1) High tensile strength, small elongation (3%).
(2) High elastic coefficient and good rigidity.
(3) Large elongation and high tensile strength within the elastic limit, so the absorption of impact energy is large.
(4) Inorganic fiber, non-combustible, good chemical resistance.
(5) Low water absorption.
(6) The scale stability and heat resistance are good.
(7) Good processability, can be made into strands, bundles, felt, woven fabric and other different forms of products.
(8) Transparent through light.
(9) Good followability with resin.
(10) The price is cheap.
(11) It is not easy to burn and can be melted into glassy beads at high temperatures.
